Formally incorporated in 1935, this family group initially held meeting in parks and campgrounds with picnics and covered dish luncheons. As time passed, things changed – but the same familiar faces continue to meet yearly. Never was it more true – “make new friends, but keep the old. The first are silver and the others are gold.”
Annual Meetings: We continue the old traditions and now meet formally and annually in July on the 2nd Saturday. Why July? Because the children (traditionally) had no school in July. This is OUR Family – we encourage the children to attend! View photos of the 2010 Reunion or this 2010 Gallery.
Stiles Family DNA Project: At the present time, we are engaged in a project with Family Tree DNA –FtDNA. The Stiles Family of America currently has over 301,000 names in our computer files including STILES, STYLES and variations using the Family Tree Maker program and IBM compatible equipment. There are many more names on ‘hard copy” awaiting data input in Leon’s archives. While the Massachusetts Family and Connecticut Family are well documented in books, there are other families who are not documented nearly as well, and there are about 20 other books on the Stiles/Styles Family. It is well to remember that prior to the Civil War, the letters “I” and “Y’ were used interchangeably. The Stiles Family – with Leon Noble Stiles as Lead Historian for almost 50 years – has over 4000 Missing Link Families – families who are unlinked to any of the main families! DNA Studies will be most helpful! What we need is an unbroken Stiles/Styles line of at least 4 generations if possible. We need test only one gentleman from this unbroken line.
Newsletters: Yes, if you are a dues-paying member, you will receive your newsletter twice a year. This is YOUR newsletter, so if you want YOUR news in it, you must send it to the Editor.
Membership: We encourage you to become a member – and to remain a member. There is only one Stiles Family of America – and it is only with your support that it will flourish.
Scholarship Fund: The Stiles Family of America has Scholarship Funds available. Funding is made possible by your generous donations, sales of merchandise with the Stiles family logo at the reunions and by the interest generated yearly from our “Nest Egg” (that remains intact to generate interest for future scholars). The following items are available: tank top tee shirts, black tote bags, aprons, hats, mugs, iron-on patches. Applications must be in the hands of the Chairman by 1 May and members of the Scholarship Committee evaluate candidates – returning the rankings to the Chair who collates the results and reports to the Board.
Purpose and Privacy Policy: This policy of long-standing has been formalized. Information that has been shared with the Stiles Family of America is not shared with any commercial group, ie: Ancestry, Heritage Quest, etc.
The Bylaws of the Stiles Family of America helps to give direction for our organization.
JOIN US TODAY: “It is a good and joyful thing” to become a member of the Stiles Family of America – make new friends, find your “brothers and sisters”.
